Data Proves Adventures Are Better When Kids Take The Lead

The idea for Trip Jones first sparked over 21 years ago on a family vacation in Hawaii. I looked at my kids—surrounded by culture, history, and natural wonder—and realized we were missing a huge opportunity. They weren’t just along for the ride. They could have been learning, connecting, adventuring. Even better, they could’ve become curious, capable ambassadors for the places we visited.

That moment lit a fire in me.

For the next two decades, I dove deep—studying what the best travel guides, educational tools, and kids’ brands were doing to truly connect. I believed, and told anyone who would listen, that this idea would resonate with everyone: parents, grandparents, teachers, and especially kids. Why? Because adventures—whether around the block or across the globe—aren’t just fun. They build confidence, expand horizons, and shape memories that last a lifetime.

So imagine my excitement when real data finally proved what I’d seen and felt firsthand. According to a new report from Talker Research, 82% of parents say the best trips happen when kids are involved in the planning. Even more exciting? 86% of kids want to be more involved, and 53% say they want to plan as much of the trip as they can!

We’re not just onto something. We’re onto something needed. Something joyful. Something that could change how families travel together forever.

That’s the mission of Trip Jones: to empower kids to take the lead in real-world adventures—and to make travel more meaningful for the whole family.
